I am a writer, speaker, and trauma informed strength trainer who is passionate about giving people the tools they need to heal from trauma and cultivate mental health and wellness.
I am the author of Lifting Heavy Things: Healing Trauma One Rep at a Time and my work as a trauma practitioner has been widely recognized by the trauma and fitness community, and has been featured in a number of articles including on NPR.com, Greatist, Outside Online, Vice, and Nike.com. My writing on the subject has appeared in a number of publications including Elemental, Elephant Journal, Thrive Global, The Good Men Project, Innerself, and Upworthy. I have presented my work for Somatic Experiencing International, The Breathe Network, Reebok, Les Mills, The Goodwill Excel Center and fitness studios in the US and Canada.
Here on Medium I explore different topics ranging from mental health to learning to write poetry, and to life in general as a bit of an oddball, loving mom, and loyal friend. I am a huge fan of the personal essay and I plan to share more of my creative nonfiction work here in the coming months.
When I am not writing, teaching, or lifting heavy things, I am cooking, eating, chatting with friends, or watching random stuff on Hulu. I live in New York City with my husband, daughter, and two cats.
